Japandi Kitchen
Located in Chorlton, this bespoke Japandi kitchen was designed to create a calm and beautifully balanced open-plan living space within a characterful Manchester home. The design reflects the core principles of Japandi kitchen design, combining Scandinavian simplicity with Japanese-inspired natural materials and minimal detailing.
Designing A Calm Japandi Kitchen Space
The project centres around a large island and a soft neutral palette, combining modern functionality with warm natural textures.
Clean-lined cabinetry keeps the Japandi kitchen aesthetic understated, while natural timber shelving introduces warmth and depth. Premium appliances, including Neff ovens and a Bora Pure venting hob, are seamlessly integrated into the layout to maintain the kitchen’s refined appearance.
Large anthracite-framed windows and a rooflight bring natural light deep into the room, enhancing the light surfaces and open layout. The finished space feels bright, organised and welcoming, designed to support everyday living as well as relaxed entertaining
We specialise in designing bespoke kitchens across Manchester and the North West, creating tailored spaces that reflect the architecture and lifestyle of each home.
The Design Brief
The goal for this project was to create a Japandi kitchen that felt calm, minimal and highly functional within a bright open-plan Manchester home. The client wanted a space that would feel visually uncluttered while still offering generous storage and practical workspace for everyday cooking and entertaining.
Achieving this balance required careful attention to layout, materials and lighting. Every element of the design was selected to support a clean, refined aesthetic while ensuring the kitchen remained highly practical.
A Kitchen Designed for Everyday Living
While the design feels minimal, the kitchen has been carefully planned to support the way the space is used every day.
The island encourages gathering and conversation, creating a natural place for family and friends to spend time together. At the same time, the surrounding workspace ensures cooking and preparation remain comfortable and efficient.
By combining thoughtful design with carefully selected materials, the finished space delivers a kitchen that feels calm, welcoming and easy to live with.
The Kemp Kitchens Design Process
Every kitchen designed by us begins with a careful understanding of the home and the people who live in it. Rather than applying a standard layout, each project is shaped around the architecture of the property and the way the space will be used day to day.
Our designers work closely with clients to explore materials, layout options and practical details that will influence how the kitchen functions. This collaborative approach ensures that every element, from cabinetry proportions to lighting and finishes, contributes to a cohesive and considered design.
By combining thoughtful planning with skilled craftsmanship, we create bespoke kitchens that feel refined, practical and perfectly suited to the home they are designed for.
